Near-net shape forging is an innovative manufacturing process of high-performance components. Precision forging components are realized with high accuracy to allow as many functional areas to remain as forged. In this way, productivity is increased, and post-forging operations are reduced, allowing a cost advantage and short leadtimes. Net forging represents some relatively recent developments of the conventional closed die technology. Net shape forgings have geometric features that are thinner and more detailed, closer dimensional tolerances and with as forged surfaces. The resulting product benefits of fewer machining operations, reduced weight, material need efficiencies resulting in lower cost of raw materials and energy, also translated in less environmental impact. We obtain outstanding mechanical characteristics and a high production ratio, compared to toothing. These are the essential advantages of precision forging. Only defined functional surfaces need a finishing after the forging and integrated annealing process.
